Democrats take the House!

The Democrats managed to take back control of the House of Representatives. The Senate control is still up in the air. Experts are saying that people came out to vote, not for the Democrats, but against President Bush and his policies on the War in Iraq. Only time will tell how this change will affect social policy in the United States. Keep your eyes and ears open and continue your advocacy.

Stabenow Wins Reelection
It's always good to see fellow social workers in office helping to create good social policy. Sen. Debbie Stabenow was able to win reelection against challenger Mike Buchard. For those of you are unaware, Debbie Stabenow is a social worker who graduated from Michigan State University. I hope that she inspires some of the rest of you social workers to run for office. The more of us in elected offices means that more social work influence can be felt throughout the states.

Students, check out our special section just for you.  This month our focus is on loan forgiveness. Several social work positions can result in your loan being forgiven.  You should always check with a loan counselor first to find out what jobs qualify.  To learn more about this, click here.
