Job Hunting is Hell
Mood:  hug me
Now Playing: Bob Segar - Her Strut
Topic: work
Well, I'm in the final phases of school. I'm about to leave my comfortable position as student and enter the professional world of work, not that I haven't been working all this time. It's different when you leave school and aren't sure of the future. On the one hand, I would like to stay in Michigan. My family's here, Dan's here, and my friend's are here. On the other hand, I want to break out and see what the rest of the country and world has to offer. I would love to be working in Washington, D.C. I need to figure things out soon because it's hard to make plans when you don't know where you are going to be in the next year...

...On to the job hunt...

I haven't put out a single resume. Mainly, I think it's because I haven't seen a job that I like. Some of it has to do with a lack of confidence. I might see a job, but think that I don't have enough skills or knowledge to do the job. In reality, I could probably do a lot more jobs than I even care to think about. It's a scary thought, leaving your comfort zone and actually sending in a resume for a job that you're unsure of. My networking skills need improving and I feel like the jobs I want won't pay worth a darn. I need to start cold sending resumes to organizations that do advocacy work. THIS IS THE GOOD THING -- I THINK I FINALLY FIGURED OUT EXACTLY WHAT I WANT TO DO. I want to work as a policy advocate. Some organizations I've been thinking about include NOW, ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and ACORN. Even though I think I want to do policy advocacy, I am not closed to doing other things...

...to the future...

I will look for volunteer opportunities to expand my network this summer. I may even apply for a summer externship for some more experience. I need to call the man from Gov. Granholm's campaign back to see about helping out with the campaign...it's been a month since I got that phone call and I haven't returned it because I've been working on the logistics of campaign work and (I hope) a full-time job...

...and beyond...

I think that I should get back to work, now that I've finished the novel that was my blog entry for today.
