The Life of a Social Worker

Ice is Nice
Mood:  celebratory
Now Playing: CSI: Season 1
Topic: Life in General
Well, today started out like a monday. I got up and got ready for work, looked at the TV and saw that Charlotte schools were on a two hour delay. Since my job has connections to Head Start, school closings mean I don't have to work. However, school delays mean nothing. I grab my tea and leave for work, driving about 20 miles away through freezing rain. When I get to work, my cell rings and my supervisor says Charlotte schools just closed. Here I am sitting in the parking lot thinking, I got out of bed for this? Oh well, a snow day in any form is a good thing! :)

Oh, The Agony
Mood:  d'oh
Now Playing: If I Had A Million Dollars - Bare Naked Ladies
Topic: Weight-loss
Alright everyone...I've decided to lose weight. My new years resolution was to lose 50 lbs. I didn't know that entailed killing myself. My legs feel like Paul Sheldon's after Annie clocked him with the mallot in Misery.

But I will continue to fight through the pain as I get ready to complete the Biggest Loser workout video. Some day off...right?

Gone With The Trash - A short documentary

[Flash Back to last October]
Kirsten is checking her email when she comes across a list with her name on it telling her that she needs to turn in a "Signed Statement of Understanding" (even though she has turned in one last year)

[close up on Kirsten's face]
Kirsten: *&%^%

She signs the damn paper and turns it in to the appropriate mailbox in the social work department at the same time as other students in her group.

[Flash back to December]
Kirsten is checking her email when she comes across a list with her name on it telling her that she still needs to turn in a "Signed Statement of Understanding" (even though she has turned in one in October)

[close up on Kirsten's face]
Kirsten: *&%^%

She emails the field office and informs them that she has already turned in the paper and asks if they need her to turn in another one.

No Response

[Flash to today]
Kirsten is checking her email when she comes across an email telling her that she still needs to turn in a "Signed Statement of Understanding" and that she cannot accrue anymore field hours until it is turned in(even though she has turned in one in October)

[close up on Kirsten's face]
Kirsten: *&%^%,*&%^%,*&%^%

She replys telling them that she has already turned it in and that she asked them to let her know if she needed to turn in another one. She also calls the office and is told to bring another copy in. She drives to MSU, risks getting a ticket by parking in a no parking zone, and turns in the paper to the field office.

The End

Graduation Ticker
Mood:  caffeinated
Now Playing: NPR...lol
Topic: school
I thought that it would be cool to do a ticker like Kate did for my graduation (thanks for the cool link Kate). Unfortunately, I couldn't get the font color to change so I had to post a link to my ticker on the left. For those who want to put the date on their calendar, it is:

Friday, May 5, 2006

The School of Social Work's Recognition Ceremony is from 9-11:30 a.m. at the People's Church in East Lansing.

The MSU Graduation Ceremony is from 7-9:30p.m.at the Breslin Center on campus.

New Homepage
Mood:  hungry
Now Playing: The Phantom of the Opera
Topic: Life in General
I created a new homepage for the heck of it. If you want to visit, you can click on the link to the left. That one has more info about me and my thoughts on various topics of social concern. This blog will probably be more about what I am doing, while that one will be more about what I am thinking (when I do have a thought). I know...I have to make things more complicated than they need to be. Oh well, as Mimi says to Roger...Forget Regret or life is yours to miss!

Well, today marks the beginning of the end...so to speak. I attended my first practice class of this semester. It seems like it should be pretty interesting. I'll have to post the syllabus at a later date so y'all can keep up with my life.

No Day but Today

Welcome to my blog! I've decided to join the 21st century and capture my life on the internet for all to see and enjoy. I hope to post my first real entry tomorrow after the first class of my last semester of the social work grad program here at MSU.
